“As a therapist, I am a companion. I try to help people tune into their own wisdom.”
Virginia Satir
Change happens in many ways, and every therapist-client relationship is unique. I draw on a wide range of philosophical, psychological, and psychoanalytic ideas to build a collaborative relationship with each client, informed by classical and current research on theory, practice, and human development. If you want short-term support, mindfulness-based and other approaches can help you work through difficult thoughts, feelings, and moods. If you want to explore yourself more deeply, a longer-term psychodynamic approach can help you recognize and change problematic patterns in your relationships and elsewhere in your life.
I work primarily from a psychodynamic perspective. Thoughts and feelings we aren’t fully aware of can shape how we think, feel, and behave, and can contribute to anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and difficulty in relationships. Looking at your experience in the context of your early relational world can reveal how you respond to life today, loosen unnecessary ways of coping, and build a new sense of personal freedom. Overall, the aim is to help you feel better about yourself, relate more fully to others, and cope more effectively with stress.
Clients often describe my style as warm, engaged, and focused. I aim for a balance of compassion, connection, and gentle challenge, pointing out when parts of you seem to be in conflict. Therapy is a collaboration: I’ll ask for your feedback along the way, and we’ll adjust so the work fits your needs and goals. Learn more about who I work with.
